Moving out of Manitoba
If you are moving out of Manitoba, click here.
If you are temporarily leaving Manitoba, make sure your new jurisdiction allows you to maintain your Manitoba driver’s license throughout your stay.
If you will be away during the time that it needs to be renewed, visit one of our offices to complete the appropriate paperwork in advance or complete an authorization form to allow an individual to renew it on your behalf.
**A word of warning – when authorizing an individual to renew your driver’s license on your behalf, verify first if you will require a photo.
If so, we will also require a completed Driver Unavailable form to bypass the photo capture process.
If you are new to Manitoba
Vehicle insurance is provided on a public basis in Manitoba. Renewals occur on a five year schedule, four months after your birth date. Your driver’s license, identification card and any Autopac coverage expire together and are normally renewed at the same time. Payment of outstanding premium is all that is required at the anniversary each year during the term.
To transfer your out-of-province driver’s license and/or vehicle insurance to Manitoba, you will require several documents. A summary of the requirements is listed here, and the full list of Driver Licensing acceptable documentation is also available (click here).
You have 90 days from the date of your move to Manitoba to transfer your driver’s license and insurance over from your previous jurisdiction or until your current license and registration expires, whichever comes first.
